Olivia & Ethan

When I arrived to photograph little Olivia, she was curled up and sleeping soundly. As soon as the camera came out though, she opened her eyes wide and modeled for me.

Big brother Ethan jumped in on the photo action and we had a great time goofing off and laughing!

I never know how an older sibling is going to react when I want to get pictures of them with their baby sibling, but luckily Ethan was more than willing to snuggle up with Olivia. He was so sweet with her!

The B Family

Things have been busy since I got back from my mini vacation! I've photographed a bunch of families and I'll share them with you over the next few days.

First up, Baby N from the B family:

Doesn't he have the sweetest smile?

mmm...yummy hand...

This one cracks me up every time I look at it--
Baby N thought I was hilarious!

Mom, Dad and pup jumped in one too.

Thanks again to the B family for such a fun photo session!

To all my readers, hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving and that your tummies are recovering today! :)

mini-vacation to Santa Monica

I took a 4 day mini-vacation to California last weekend and let me say that it was much needed! I was more than ready for sun, sand and In-N-Out. :)

I left my 40D at home and brought along my little Canon point and shoot as well as my Holga. I'm still waiting for the lab to process the Holga pics, but here are some of my favorite digital ones (all of these were taken by the pier in beautiful Santa Monica):

Randomly enough, some fellow Seattlites happened to be down in the LA area the same weekend. One of those was my sister Jamie (she's the one on the right in both the shadow pics and on the left in the pic below).

I'm usually never in pics when I go on vacations by myself, so I took advantage of Jamie and asked her to snap one of me, messed up beach hair and all:

Who can I thank for my beach hair? My friend Huy who was down from Seattle as well. He made sure I jumped in the ocean at his favorite surf spot:

I've been back in Seattle since Monday and I'm already thinking about my next sunny getaway. Any clients interested in a tropical photo shoot? ;)

Fashion Friday - The Trapeze Dress

OK, I know it's not Friday, but Fashion Saturday just doesn't have the same ring to it. :)

Anyway, a couple months ago I was inspired to push myself and get out of my camera setting comfort zone. I ususally shoot portraits at ISO 100, f8, 1/125 with some sort of flash unit---either a Canon 580EX II on a light stand with a softbox or a White Lightning 1800 with an umbrella (sorry for all those who I've lost. I promise I'll show some pretty pics if you get through this tech-y part). I wanted to shoot in completely natural light and vary up my f-stops to see what I'd get.

I knew I wanted to shoot one of my absolute favorite trapeze dresses from Forever 21 and luckily Charity agreed to be my model for the afternoon. I wanted the photos to feel light and airy, much like the way I feel when I'm wearing the dress. Below are some of my most favorite pictures I've shot to date. It definitely paid off to break out of my comfort zone!
