camel back cat

Puck is one of my absolute favorite cats to photograph. He's super soft, very cuddly, and wow does he like to talk--more than me even!

Last time I had a session with him, he was all about his new cat food bowl. This time he was obsessed with his owner's camel back couch, which was really exciting for me since it was a fabulous setting for photos. Puck must have been just as excited as I was because he was meowing through the entire shoot and even gave me a bunch of kitty kisses before I left. Oh man, do I love kitty kisses. :)

i {heart} mod

Oh mod, I love you so. Your clean, classic look gets me every time. I love when you're simple, but I love it even more when you're daring in color or bold in print. Case in point--pet beds.

Here are some fantastic pet beds I found at Design Public (all images copyright 2008 by S2D2 LLC)...

This first one is the Crypton Doodle Dog Pet Bed in the color "Pool":

This one is also by Crypton and is the Rotator Pet Bed in the color "Pomelo":

Can't forget about the kitties! This gorgeous piece is the Elizabeth Paige Smith Kittypod:

This one is the Kittypod Mini:

I still can't get over how great these are! The cat beds look like sculptures and would be purrfect in my living room. :)

Speaking of mod things that would look good in my house, check out these super cute bird-themed wallpapers (yep, they're on Design Public too!)...

This is the Graham & Brown Mode Birdcage Wallpaper:

And these next 2 are Cavern Home Blackbird Wallpaper:

Liv Larsen

I was browsing through my dictionary and under the word 'photogenic' I found this picture:

OK--not really, but if Webster had met Liv Larsen I think he would have been compelled to include her in his book.

Don't believe me? Take a look at a couple pics from her photo session:

I photographed Liv in her home, which was filled with her beautiful photographs and paintings. Her art is amazing and you should definitely check out her site.

I loved this group of paintings:

Thanks again Liv! Someone might be calling you when she's in need of a model... :)

mon petit Bella

I recently paid a post-op visit to a certain gallbladder-less kitty. I'm happy to report that mon petit Bella is recovering nicely. Her stomach staples were removed at the Seattle Veterinary Specialists last week and the vet said her fur should start growing back soon. This is great news, especially since she seems a little embarrassed about bearing so much skin. :)

Olive

It's no secret that I don't like olives. As a kid I tried really hard to like them, especially when my siblings would put them on their fingers...they'd be laughing and having so much fun as they ate them one by one. In an act of bravery I tried eating them again a couple years ago, but no matter how many types I tried (black, green, stuffed, Greek) and no matter how hard I willed myself to like them, I just couldn't stomach the little things.

Well, I'm excited to say that I finally found an olive I like and here she is:

Olive came into the studio with her owners yesterday and she was just the cutest thing! She kept me smiling and laughing the entire session, especially when she would jump up to catch the treats we had ready for her.

If all olives were as sweet as this Olive, I'd be eating them by the handful.

Thanks for such a great photo shoot Olive and family! :)

lazy Saturday morning

If I were a dog, I'd look like Baker.

Well, almost...I have a latte by my computer and my yawns aren't that big. :)

Hope you're all having a great Saturday morning!

Paco & Bella

My parents' cat Paco has been missing for a month now and despite all our efforts to locate him with "missing cat" posters and calls to the Humane Society, it's time to accept the fact that he is gone. I'd like to think that he wondered away and found another home with better cat food and that's why he's gone. I know it's not probable, but that's OK...it makes it slightly less painful.

On a happy note, Bella is doing much better. She had been sick for weeks and weeks--poor thing went from 8 pounds all the way down to 3. At first my parents thought it was because Paco had gone missing and she was depressed, but after a few days of not being able to keep food down, they took her to their vet for some tests...and then took her back for more tests...and more and more. Everything came back negative, but she was getting sicker and sicker as the days went on. My parents finally decided to take her to see a doctor at Seattle Veterinary Specialists for a second opinion and found out within minutes that her gallbladder was incredibly infected and she needed to have surgery. After a few days of being on an IV, she was finally well enough to go under the knife. Everything went smoothly and she's now at home recovering nicely.

I would like to give a big THANK YOU!!! to everyone at Seattle Veterinary Specialists. You took such great care of Bella and you gave my whole family peace of mind.

in the attic

I love going through my parents’ attic. The things in there never change, but I always end up finding objects that I passed over on my previous visits. I usually discover a fantastic shirt or dress that my mom had when she was in her twenties (I wish I had known her back then…she would have been my go-to model for photo shoots). Sometimes I find old newspaper articles that my grandparents had cut out, highlighting my dad’s latest achievement (football player, baseball hero, class president, homecoming king…I’m pretty sure I inherited my drive to succeed from him).

This time I found something from when my mom was a child.

Harley

I'd like you all to meet Harley:

Harley goes to work with his owner Mary every day. This is what she sees in her rear view mirror during her commute:

Harley was so sweet curling up on Mary's lap.

He was definitely ready for some shut eye by the end of the session...

Thanks again Mary and Harley!

delicious cupcakes!

Craving something sweet and fun? I know just what you need...

a Pin Up Cupcake!

Heather, a great friend and owner of Pin Up Cupcakes in Edmonds, WA, makes some of the most delicious and beautiful cupcakes I have ever tasted. What's even more amazing though is the art that goes onto each one. I watched in awe as she created roses from frosting, birds from melted chocolate, and orcas from Twinkies(!). Simply amazing.

When I hosted a Cranium party she brought "Game Night" themed cupcakes. She formed playing cards, dice, and poker chips from fondant and painted them so well that for a minute I thought they were real! She put all of the cupcakes out on my table so that they formed a game board. Genius. And delicious! So delicious in fact, that by the time I grabbed my camera the cupcakes were gone. Guess that means I'll just have to order more. :)
