Purple

A few months ago, my sister Jamie asked me to help her with a school photography project. Her assignment was to pick a color and make it the primary focus in a photo. She chose the color purple and was inspired by Ken Browar's amazing beauty photos. She put a heavy coat of foundation on my face, then we experimented with purple paint and eyeshadow. Once we had achieved the look she wanted, I set up the lights and she shot some really fun pics! Here are my three favorites:

Thanks again Sara for choosing me to photograph your amazing collection! :)

I was feeling a little vintage today, so take a look at a couple pics from the Spun shoot that I've revisited in Photoshop:

In other fashion news, I'm working on a fun project with my wonderful friend Charity (check out her food-fashion post here) and I should have some new images to share by next week. Woo hoo!

Fashion Friday - ice jewelry

It has been crazy-hot in Seattle. It was so hot we broke records here in Western Washington. Last week I had planned on doing a little fashion photo shoot for today, but the thought of putting on lots of clothes and taking pictures of myself is less than desirable right now considering I started sweating as soon as I got out of the shower this morning. So, I'm featuring some jewelry that is bound to keep anyone cool in this heat (photos courtesy of Katharina Ludwig's site):

Fashion Friday - kitten heels

I have a confession to make: I never spend a lot of money on shoes.

In my line of work, I'm constantly running, jumping, walking, and playing which wears my shoes down super quick. I've also been known to battle the elements for the perfect shot which gets my feet wet or snowy or sandy in the process. All of these things pretty much spell disaster for my shoes.

My solution to cute shoes that are both affordable and stylish is Payless. I have a favorite pair right now that are by American Eagle and I am in love with them. Yes, a lot of the love comes from the adorable kitten heel, but most of the love comes from how comfortable they are to shoot in. Oh, and the amazing sound they make when I walk. Listen...

Fashion Friday: Spun

Recently I was asked what I photograph on my own time; something I do that keeps me busy when I'm not taking pictures for clients; something that inspires me to push myself and be a better photographer. My answer was fashion. I love looking through fashion magazines, fashion photos online, fashion catalogs (the June Anthropologie catalog is to die for!). I love typing the word "fashion" into Flickr and finding pictures that speak to me (like this one and this one). So...

I've decided that Fridays will be "Fashion Friday" on my blog. This one will be short and sweet being that I have to catch a plane pretty soon (the blog post tomorrow will fill you in). This is me and the super cute
Diane Wrap Dress I got from Sara Seumae's clothing line, Spun.

I know I've blogged about how awesome she is before, but I'm going to do it again! :) I love her clothing so much and I always get compliments whenever I'm wearing any of her pieces. If you haven't checked her out, do it! Not only is her clothing awesome, she's pretty darn awesome herself.

city shoot

I recently had a photo session with Yusen, who was looking for some images to add to his modeling portfolio. I had a certain look in mind the weeks leading up to our shoot and I really wanted to photograph in downtown Seattle, but the weather forecast for the date of the shoot said rain, rain and more rain. Luckily for me, the meteorologists were wrong and I was able to photograph Yusen in the studio
and in the city.

a pup haven in Kirkland, WA

One of my clients recently told me about Barkz, a dog boutique in Kirkland. Never one to pass up "research" shopping, I decided to check it out.

Located on Lake Street in downtown Kirkland,
Barkz is a pup haven to say the least. The first thing I noticed were the toys--vibrant toys that filled the shelves and would make anyone excited for play time. Then there were the dog beds that were so fashionable you'd want to display one in your living room (instead of stashing it in your laundry room the minute guests arrive). There was a whole section of dog leashes that featured just about every color you'd find in a box of Crayons. And then there were the doggy treats that looked so good I wanted to eat them.

I roamed their store for about 20 minutes, taking the time to look at every car accessory (protective seat cover for your wet pooch? Genius!), every shampoo (green tea scented? Yes please!), and every doggy outfit (kind of like a
Bluefly for canines). This is definitely a place that will keep you coming back for more, but don't trust me--check it out for yourself.

Barkz
115 Lake Street South
Kirkland, WA 98033

Open Monday-Friday from 10:00am to 7:30pm; Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am to 6:00pm.

new backgrounds!

I've been inspired by the retro patterns in recent magazine ads and decided I should offer some retro backgrounds to my clients.

So here are the 4 new backgrounds I bought (I'm REALLY excited about them!):

It's the little things in life...

...that make me smile.

A hot vanilla latte in the morning,
a letter from a friend in the mail,

my favorite song on the radio,
a compliment from a stranger,
and
new red shoes.

Another article!

I just got an email from Spun designer Sara Seumae letting me know that another article has been published about her clothing line and includes some photos that I took during the photo shoot for her 2008 fall/winter collection! You can check out the NWSource article here.

I own some wonderful Spun shirts and I can't wait to get my hands on one of the amazing fall/winter dresses. Here are a couple of my favorite ones (I just have to decide which one--or ones--to buy!):

clothing shoot with Spun

Well, I finally did it...I started a blog! I'm excited about sharing my recent photo shoots with you, as well as some fun experiences I've had lately. Let's dive in with today's piece of news:

I did a photo shoot earlier this month for Spun, a local organic clothing line by designer Sara Seumae, and just found out today that NWSource published an article about her along with one of my photos!
You can check out the article here. It's always nice opening up an email titled "you're in the news." :)

Here are a couple more shots from the photo session:
